Getting fit is not just about ‘Training hard’ although no pain no gain is a tried and tested expression, i.e. if you put it in you will get results and the harder you try the quicker the results!
Resting and allowing the body to heal and catch up with itself is equally as important as the training. In addition to this is sports and relaxation massage which if done on a regular basis will help your body recover from the rigours of training and set it up for the next session or weeks training.
Paying attention to your body and learning to recognise the difference between ‘a good pain’ which is the result of a good hard training session and ‘a bad pain’ which is injury related is also really important. In order for fitness to occur you need to ‘overload your body’ on a number of occasions before your body decides it needs ‘to adapt’ to the load and your lung capacity increases, your muscles strengthen and tone until what you found hard now becomes easy this is known as ‘overload and adaptation’. The process of recovering from the training can be speeded up by the introduction of ‘rest’ and rehabilitation massage on a regular basis this will dilate the blood vessels and the lymphatic system which will promote recovery and assist with healing if any is required. ‘Prevention’ of injury by pre-emptive treatment is better for you than receiving treatment to ‘cure’ an injury.
Map Fitness has a vastly experienced Sports therapist and masseur on hand to assist all Map Fitness members with the recovery from training and treatment of injuries which promotes muscular skeletal balance and should lead to you getting more from your training. In addition to training hard and looking after your body getting your mind right also plays a part in getting the most from your training and being able to relax to promote post training recovery is another important ingredient to the whole ‘let’s get fit’ package and as a result, as Map Fitness are dedicated to getting you to where you want to be as quickly and efficiently as you want our onsite therapist is also an holistic therapist being a qualified ‘Reiki’ master. Reiki is a gentle therapy that works on a mental, emotional and a spiritual level which when coupled with the physical therapy already described means we can create a mind and body balance as well as a muscular skeletal balance which ultimately means a fitter healthier you at a pace you will find hard to believe!

For the purpose of understanding the link between Reiki and getting fit ‘Map Fitness’ style the following will give you the ethos behind why we are including this in what we offer to our Map Fitness members;
Fitness is a state of mind!
For fitness to be truly fulfilling you need to look at the whole person and the whole picture; ‘working out’, ‘resting’, ‘eating healthily’, ‘therapeutic massage’ to promote muscular skeletal balance and finally getting a mind and body balance with holistic relaxation.
If you work out you will achieve results, if you just improve your diet you will achieve results, if you have regular massage you will feel better in yourself, if you have regular relaxation sessions with Reiki treatments you will grow as a person and feel great but if you put all of these things together you will have a fantastic package designed to promote healthy living and enjoyment of your life on a scale you will not have experienced to date in your life.
Reiki promotes a clearing of the mind so the mind can focus on being calm, when the mind is at peace this promotes healing on a mental, emotional and a physiological level therefore promoting a mind and body balance. Stress is a silent assassin! Combining physical exercise and relaxation through Reiki will dramatically reduce your stress levels and therefore increase your enjoyment of your life!
What happens in a Reiki Treatment?
After a short discussion with your therapist you will be asked to lie down on a treatment table you remain fully clothed but will be asked to loosen any tight clothing and to remove shoes or outdoor clothing. You will be given a short mental exercise to play with during the treatment and apart from lying there and enjoying the experience that is all you do! The practitioner will gently place their hands on the head and body in a loose routine following their intuition and you will drift off into a Reiki slumber and before you know it the session will be over and you will be leaving the room having started a lovely journey to find mental peace and harmony. Reiki is an experiential treatment and as such is personal to each individual and the best thing of all it is a very gentle form of therapy that you are in complete control of, you only deal with things you are ready to deal with at this point in your life and you can stop the therapy at any time. A great feeling of well being and mental calm is what we are after and this in time is what you will achieve.
